Ive found testosterone is one of the single best antidepressants for depressed men. Combine testosterone with practically any antidepressant, and you've got a powerful combo. Just watch out for obstructive sleep apnea with testosterone though, as T can cause or potentiate sleep apnea. Ive tried literally hundreds of prescription drugs over the years for depression and ended up with a combo that works pretty good for me. 1) an SSRI antidepressant 2) CPAP treatment for obstructive sleep apnea and 3) testosterone. When I combine all three, I feel functional and can even thrive. SSRIs by themselves are like slightly better than placebo, at least for me. Keep in mind that when giving depressed men testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), the goal is not to push men's testosterone levels into the above normal or "supra physiological" range as many athletes do with anabolics. The goal is just to get your T levels into the normal to mid normal ranges. Its the supra physiological range that causes the overly aggressive behavior seen in athletes who abuse anabolic steroids. I don't know why but the NRA reminds me of the Boy Scout Club. I am Canadian and really should hate guns, but I don't. I think guns are good to have for protection, but they should be really restricted by screening users. They are very flashy and sexy in a Hollywood way and pacifists get very upset about them, but the truth is that cars kill far more people than guns do. My shrink told me he has a woman on testosterone. She rubs a small amount on her clitoris daily (gel) and it gives her a potent antidepressant response. Obvously, women need much much smaller amounts than men do, but even women need some T. Yes, women have testosterone as well as estrogen in their blood stream. Testosterone increases libido; i am not sure of the side effects-- they are not good for the heart in men.
