Question:
I really think the above person was probably misdiagnosed and not given the proper treatment to begin with. But how about a community for the insane?

Answer:
I guess if you look at that person as been terminally ill then I see your point. But I don't support suicide. It has a rippling effect on all those left behind. Too many people close to me have died that way. I really think the above person was probably misdiagnosed and not given the proper treatment to begin with. But how about a community for the insane? I'm not talking asylum. I would also be concerned about the possible abuse of this license to die. I am thinking of a case for example, where the person has deteriorated by bad treatment to the point where he/she would agree to euthanasia. The alternatives just may not be within his imagination in such a state, and the clinic or hospital may find this a convenience rather than mercy killing. It could become an expected choice once the person's insurance and finances run out and the government declines to pick up the tab for further treatment (as is the case more and more often). It also seems fertile ground for abuse from people who have a vested interest in saving or inheriting money, as used to be the case with institutionalization a generation and more ago.
