I was taking 10 mg of prozac daily for several months and then switched to Wellbutrin. I'm reading all these posts on here about withdrawal and now I'm wondering how I should have tapered myself off of Prozac. Since I was only taking 10mg a day, how should I have come off of it? I knew it would be a while before feeling the benefits of Wellbutrin but I didn't expect the effects of just stopping Prozac. I had several good days and then I'd get a really "low" day, then a good day again. Now it seems to be tapering off, but I wonder how I should have done things differently. Also, is nausea a side effect of coming off prozac or a side effect of when you're first taking Wellbutrin?

Going off Prozac isn't a problem for most people because it has such a long half life. Among ad's, it's Paxil and Effexor that are the worst for withdrawl. I took 20mg for 2 years, for one week took one every other day, and then stopped totally. Had no withdrawl at all. I've seen some docs that have written that tapering with Prozac isn't necessary at all. I don't know about that, but it's certainly requires much less than Paxil or Effexor. You can take Prozac one day, skip the next, take the next for about a week until it diminishes. 10 mg is a very low dosae. Wellbutrin may make you a little jittery and sleepless if you hit the 300 mg a day threshold. Make sure your pdoc has prescribed the SR (slow release) version. Is much less prone to side effects. I have heard stories of people taking 450mg + having seizures but I can't imagine a doctor who would start you on that high, It is "usually but of course YMMV" 150mg for a week to 300 mg for several weeks/months and then down to 150mg to stabalize, but DSFSF. It works on different brain chemicals
