Ask your doc about it. From a comparative search on bipolar drugs, i found that Depakote makes you 3x as fat as lithium. Unlike lithium all the other bipolar drugs are anti-convulsants. Lithium is unique. Toleration of its side effects may be due to weight/dose or thyroid level/dose relations. Adjustment here may make it a preferred choice. Zyprexa definitely causes weight and metabolic problems, and Seroquel, too, to a lesser extent, but Abilify doesn't have that effect. I take Abilify for bipolar disorder; it works better for me than the anticonvulsants I have tried. Depakote made me depressed; Lamictal made me manic; Neurontin just worked on my anxiety (I don't take any of these anymore). I don't understand your dislike of all the atypicals, or your statement that they are "very dangerous drugs." Would you be willing to elaborate on that?
