approved as adjunctive treatment for major depression ?
Answer:
That's right, have blood check first for diabetes. I think that Zyprexa is more likely to cause that than Abiligy. Serzone, too, should not be given without preliminary enzyme tests for the liver. Just like lithium was never given without checking heart, kidneys and thyroid first. Drugs and their effects are taken for granted sometimes. As for adjunct, i might trust someone like Dr. Sheldon Preskorn for a pharmacological understanding of the synergy of two drugs producing a favourable outcome. Sometimes they do not interact at all, and it is just one drug that works, and the other one is inappropriate or ineffective- but both of them get the credit. Other times, you just get adverse effects from two drugs instead of one and if the synergy is actually taking place chemically, it may be good or not. Those black boxes are very much like the warnings on cigarette packages - sort of optional- youz payz your moneyz and youz take your chancez; my dr. didn't even tell me that Zyprexa would make me gain weight or that it was bad for diabetes -- two things he was concerned about. Also the price was $220.00 whereas my lithium is 12.40 something for a months supply of each. Ahem. You can take a look at Public Citizen for a more critical view of the new atypical antipsychotics. BTW, i did not take the drug, and i'm ok - the reason i did not is because the lithium-Zyprexa interaction causes NMS- pretty dangerous stuff; and that you can find not on Healy's works but Dr. Nemeroff's Practical Guide in Psychopharmacology.
