A friend of mine, female mid-thirties, has just started this drug after trying to relieve her chronic depression with several other therapy's, none of which has worked for her. From what she's told me and I've found in on-line reference, it's a pretty intense treatment for depression. Does anyone have any experience with this medication?

I am new here so I'll try to keep it short! I am not new to depession, but have not had to resort to meds in the past (except for one short period 10 yrs. ago). I've had fallen into a hole that I couldn't get out of by myself so I went to a therapist. She eventually recommended meds, so I went to a phyciatist. He has me on Wellbutrin (300mg/day). It has helped noticeably, but I am having symptoms that the doc claims are NOT related to the drug. I did not have them to this magnitude before. They are; headache, short term memory problems, disorietation (loss of direction), a HELL of a craving for sweets and even a highly increased labido. Mt question is, have anyone else ever experienced this on this med? Or could it be something else. I have been classified as an A-typical depressive if that makes any difference. One more! I am on supplements that have ephedra (ephedrine) in them. My daily intake is 88mg per day. I haven't noticed an elivated BP or anything, but was wondering if it is safe to mix these two drugs? I started taking Wellbutrin abt a month and a half ago to treat my depression(which my doc was sure I had) as well as possibly Attention deficit disorder (ADD). He didn't know if my concentration/attention problems were due to depression or if I had ADD. Wellbutrin treats ADD and depression so he put me on it. I have been taking 300mg/day. So far the side effects have been minimal. I had a dry mouth in the beginning but not much anymore and I also had insomnia for a couple days but that's pretty much in control now too. It has helped control the depressive thoughts so all in all I guess I got real lucky that this drug worked for me since it's the first one I've ever tried. It has not helped w/ the attention/concentration probs yet tho. I've done the full range of paxil on up...last one was prozac. Finally thought I had hit the magic button! Got emotions back, sex drive increased multifold, slept well...and then the side effects hit. Prozac gave me migraine-like headaches, my dreams came in color and vivid violence that I have never experienced. I was on the lowest possible dosage and couldn't even get to therapy level. Wellbutrin was terribly constipating for me at 300 mg/day. Now my doctor has me on small doses of 3 meds: 10mg Paxil, 150 mg Wellbutrin, and 25 mg Zoloft daily. This works pretty well and I feel pretty good. Still some sexual side effects, but not so bad as Paxil alone (in a larger dose) was.
