I have been taking Effexor for 21/2 years. I experienced some nausea at first, but since then, I have been very pleased with it's ability to help lift the 'fog' of my depression. I experienced some loss of labido at first as well, but it was not great while I was so depresed either. Since those 'firsts' I now feel pretty good about my labido- the nausea only lasted a couple weeks, and overall, I feel better than I've felt in many years!

I'm a 35 year old female medical (!) student. I have been depressed as long as I can remember (all the time I thought I just was a lazy and negative sulk..!). But in december -96 I finally sought medical help: I started taking Zoloft 13 months ago. It was a miracle to feel well inside without any effort at all... But the effect weakened over time, and after a little more than one year I was on maximum dosage (200 mg/d) - and terribly depressed. So, one week ago my psychiatrist switched the medication to Efexor, whith the dose fast (after 3 days) increased to 150 mg/d. I now feel awful, not so much physically as mentally. Depressed and anxious, and no energy whatsoever. Have you experienced something similar? Have you used Efexor for some time - is it that good as they say? I also would like to get in touch with people with the the same diagnose as I have - chronic depression - and hear about their experiences with different treatments. Is there anyone who has tried ECT? Hi...I think that the max dosage of Zoloft is higher than 200mg. I've been on 300mg for 2 years, and my dr. said we could go higher. I also take 300mg of Trazadone hs, and augment both with up to 200mg total qd of hydroxyzine hcl. Haven't been on Effexor, so I can't help with that, but I would think that it takes several weeks to get going. One thing I've found with the Zol, is that while I sometimes think it's not working, my friends tell me it is, cause they know me, and I'll just remember what I was like BEFORE the Zol, and realize that it is working. For one year I was part of a venalafaxine study which tested the effectiveness of dosage levels. I thought it was great until I started taking the higher dosages and became nervous, anxious, and jumpy. I'm almost positive I was on the real thing because of the jumpiness.
