I was prescribed Paroxetine last year (20mg per day) and took them with no problems, side effects, anything for approxiamately 6 months. I decided, unwisely, that I felt fine and didnt need to take them anymore, so I stopped. I didnt tell my doctor, I didnt wean myself of them, I just stopped taking them.
Answer:
Of course, what I failed to realise was that I was feeling fine *because* I was taking them and I went quickly back downhill after I stopped. I went back to the doctor last week and asked to be put back on them, after a break of 4 months. I've now been taking them for just one week and am experiencing feelings of sickness and nausea, I go dizzy when I stand up and I've become even more short tempered than usual. My sleep patterns have always been erratic, but I am sleeping fitfully now and always wake in the mornings feeling exhausted. I experienced none of this when I took the medication last year and wondered if anyone has had the same experiences and/or has any suggestions. I'm considering returning to my doctor if things dont improve, but after having positive results last time I was on them, I'm kinda reluctant to change to something else. Having said that, I really cant continue if these feelings dont subside. Not enough information here to really comment, but try this anyway Have a good breakfast with the equivalent of two eggs worth of protein Break the pill in half and take half right after breakfast and the other half right after supper. SSRIs bind to protein when they are metabolized in the liver. I get diarrhea when I take my Paxil (60 mgs/day - 6 years now) on an empty stomach. It doesn't happen when I eat a high protein breakfast. NOTE: I eat minimum one slice of whole wheat bread for every egg-equivalent amount of protein I eat. Keeps me from getting constipated. I have found that it is not uncommon for people to start to feel better and then bail out of their meds. I have done it in the past as well. Give the meds a little more time, but if it makes you feel better, call your doctor. Thats what they are there for and why they get the big bucks. The doctor will be able to tell you if these new side effects are normal or not.
