To anybody who is on regular Effexor, switch to the "XR" time-released version. Your doc can eventually get you down to 37.5mg's a day, if you are wishing to come off of it. As a side note, the "XR" version seems to produce less side-effects...

Not necessarily true...the XR only comes in 75 and 150 MG capsules. The regular Effexor comes in 37.5, 75 and 150 MG. And in my case, the PCP had to take me OFF the XR because the dosage made me extremely overtired--so I slept 3-4 hours every afternoon--taking the 150 MG dosage at night. By taking the regualr Effexor--75 MG twice a day, my side effects were lessened....except for the dry-mouth which nothing helps with!! This is puzzling. Are you absolutely certain the XR doesn't also come in 37.5 mg? Just today, my pdoc also said that Effexor XR comes only in 75 and 150 mg capsules (not 37.5). But later today I looked at the product monograph (from a physician's sample packet) and found that under the clear heading, "EFFEXOR XR Capsules", it reads: "EFFEXOR XR (venlafaxine HCl) is available in capsules containing _37.5_ , 75 and 150 mg venlafaxine as the active ingredient." (highlighting provided by me). I'll have to check with my pharmacist and confirm which 'story' is correct here. Well, this is a YMMV thing, but Effexor XR, here in Canada anyways, is available in 37.5mg capsules. PLUS, to avoid any tiredness, I take it about 2 hours before bed, plus, small dose of Xanax. The Effexor DOES have a drowsiness effect, and thats why my pdoc advised me to take it, and Xanax for anxiety, at bed. I have been on this regiment for quite a while now, and my life has almost been TRANSFORMED!! I couldn't STAND the regular stuff...too many "ups" and "downs" once it wore off (especially during sleeping, when you can't take an extra dose.) Anyways, just my opinion, but I've been through a.d's for almost 6 years, now finding some GOOD relief. I hope you are doing good too..
