I took Effexor years ago with no problems. Is this something that I just have to ride out and it will pass?
Answer:
My Internist switched me from Celexa 40mg (which was no longer working) right to Effexor XR 150mg, with no weaning off the Celexa or going slowly getting on the Effexor. Do you think this is the right thing to do? I have been feeling unwell since she did this. I started the Effexor last Friday. It bothers my stomach which I know is a side effect. I have been also getting chills even when I am warm. I also get chill like feelings in my head. Sometimes I feel pretty good, but the stomach problem is there most of the time. I took Effexor years ago with no problems. Is this something that I just have to ride out and it will pass? It's fairly common to switch from one medication that inhibits serotonin reuptake to another, without a transition period. Sometimes this is done to mininize withdrawal effects, such as when people switch to Prozac to help them get off of Effexor. So I would say that the transition you describe is not unusual. How well it is working for you is another thing. Hopefully the side effects will fade within a week or two. If they persist, or get worse, then you should tell your doctor.
