Well, I hope no kids are reading this, but I am a 31 year old female, and my sex life has been, well, orgasmless for some time. I know it could be related to my taking Effexor, but I'm not sure. Are there any women out there who are suffering the same symptom? I think my boyfriend is getting a complex. Actually, we almost concluded I was abnormal or something -- but I am hoping it is the Effexor!! Help!!

I'm a 37 year old female I take 75mg 3xa day and I've been ;married 18 years and I do not have the ambition to have sex but it could be to not feeling that physical attraction or I never thought about the medicine. I can't say for sure about Effexor since I recently switched to it (2 weeks ago). But I was on Zoloft for 4 months and had no interest what so ever. My husband and I knew before going on this medication it could be a possiblity but I never expected to feel "dead" down there. The past couple of weeks have been wonderful its strange how much you miss it. ;o) But I can feel my libido dwindling away again. :o( Anyway I did read where you can take "vacations" from the medication and plan a time for a "get-together" but I would discuss that with your doctor before doing anything. Anyway know you are not alone in this area!!! Just let your boyfriend know its not him and like my husband says "its better than having you depressed". Probably is the Effexor. I bounced from med to med trying to deal with this one, and wound up on one of the older tricyclics: desipramine, supplemented with cylert, one of the psychostimulants - this combo works pretty well most of the time on my depression, and leaves my libido and orgasms largely alone. I'm pretty sure I've heard others describe similar experiences. Did you ever try Buspar? Buspar protects men and women from sexual side effects caused by SSRIs and SNRIS. Like Wellbutrin, Buspar restore the libido and the ability to achieve orgasms. The amount daily is 10 or 20 mg BID. I'm not female, but I can tell you that Effexor does effect orgasms. I hope when you say that "WE'VE concluded that I'm abnormal or something", you don't mean that your boyfriend feels that way about you. If he knows you're on Effexor, he should be a bit more supportive>
