I have just started a medication called bupropion (wellbutrin) for depression. I was on Zoloft and had no sex drive, so he switched me to Wellbutrin and I actually feel better. I am supposed to take two pills a day but feel better just taking one. I had nasea (sp) and i still feel a little bit dizzy. Does anyone know of anything about this drug? Does it do anything to reproductive system or anything else for that matter?

My psychopharmacologist just put me on Wellbutrin in combination with Zoloft. My main complaint with Zoloft has been that I've gained 30 pounds in the two years I've been taking it and it makes me so complacent, I haven't been motivated to do something about it. And along with the happy result of losing the ability to focus on my fears, I've lost the ability to focus on anything! He tried my on Ritalin, but I hate how it makes me feel. That's where the Wellbutrin comes in. My shrink said that it tends to work on a different set of brain chemicals than the SSRIs, such as Zoloft. Instead it works somewhat the way Ritalin does, but without the side effects. He also said that, though he doesn't agree, Wellbutrin is being marketed these days as a smoking cessation aid, because it tends to mitigate one's addictive tendencies. I've been craving EVERYTHING during the past year with Zoloft, so that's good news. I've just been taking it for about a week, and I do notice some improvement, but I've also been on the Zone diet, which is working wonders for my focus and energy level. In addition I've been reducing the Zoloft. So it's hard to say exactly what's working. I did the usual SRIs, Prozac, mostly, then tried Serzone (which did nothing), then took Effexor very successfully for quite a while. But the orgasm/libido problems started to really annoy me after a time, so I started taking Wellbutrin last summer. Have to say that it absolutely does not work as well for me as Effexor, but my sex life is a lot better! However, lately I've been feeling tremendously irritable again, so I'm beginning to wonder... Have been trying St.John's wort in combination with this just for the hell of it, but doesn't seem to have much effect, at least a relatively low dose. I'd very much like to hear what luck anybody else has had with Wellbutrin. My doctor has suggested taking a low dose of Effexor with it, but that's one more drug... would have to be really worth it. Apparently, the Wellbutrin may work to counteract the cravings (sweets, etc.) and sharpen my concentration. You might want to give the Zoloft a little time. It worked very well for me the first year or so, after about two weeks of initial drowsiness. Hope you don't get the weight gain from it though.
