Question:
Is it possible that you are taking a medication that interferes with Effexor?

Answer:
I am taking 300mg Effexor XR, and i'm getting withdrawal symptoms as if I've been taken off the medication. I've been getting brain zaps or little seizures. How do I approach this situation? Paging Nom de Plume. A dose of 300 mg is pretty high. The recommended maximum is usually 225 mg. Yet one possible explanation is that the medication is losing effectiveness, and you are experience withdrawal effects because of this (i.e., reduction in effectiveness is experienced as withdrawal). I do not know if this is the case for you, but I have heard such explanations advanced before in similar circumstances. Is it possible that you are taking a medication that interferes with Effexor? As for what to do, possibilities include dose change, augmentation, or switching medications. Dose changes upwards from 300 mg are possible, but I have not heard of going above 375 mg. Still, if your psychiatrist thinks this is safe for you, it might be an experiment worth conducting, even if only to see whether the effects get better or worse. If better, then Effexor may have been losing effectiveness. If worse, then you may be overdosing on Effexor. (Hmm. Any dramatic weight change lately? That might tip you over the edge to over- or under-dosage.)
