A doc gave me 10 days' worth of Restoril (temazepam) recently, to help me sleep. (I just wanted more Imovane (zopiclone) but they never seem to want to give me more.) It did absolutely NOTHING. He said it was a benzo indicated specifically for sleep, but it didn't do bugger all. I forget the dose - I think it was 50 mg.
Answer:
I take the odd dose of temazepam if I have a bit of trouble sleeping.(It was probably 30mg's....it's not really that big...equal to about 10mg of Vallium) I find it helpful, but just as much as other benzo's. I don't understand why your doc won't give you the Imovane??? It is very close to a benzo, and considered very safe. I might suggest changing doctors then. Just tell him/her you want to try Imovane, period! It's YOUR body..and you have a RIGHT to put in it what you please. Best wishes.... Didn't work for me either. I have some next to my bed and I don't bother taking them. Ambien is the only thing that works, but coming off of it was the worst!! Worst dreams and feelings from them I ever had. I've HAD imovane. Loved it. Felt great when I took it, and fell asleep as soon as I hit the pillow. Only problem was the bitter taste which would last the whole next day. But they keep saying they don't like using imovane on a long-term basis, and besides, I was developing a tolerance to it FAST. Temazepam was a total waste of time, and trazodone (at 100 mg) scared me. I guess trazodone 50 mg will be better. Trazodone: This was awful. I would take six capsules (150mg) at night and after about 20 minutes I felt like I had been hit ont he head with a hammer. Stumbling around, almost like being totally wasted on alcohol. Then the dry mouth, the stuffy nose and the strange feeling of dissociation that one sometimes feels when stoned. In the morning I would feel worse and try and get through the day when you feel like an in-patient at Mount Misery, drugged to the hilt and barely capable of functioning. I found the sexual side effect very uncomfortable and was quite worried that it wouldn't seem to go down until I completely stopped taking the stuff. I read in a medical journal that one of the metabolites of Trazodone is a more powerful dopamine blocker than Chlorpromazine. This would probably explain the incapacitated 'drugged' stupour that I felt I was in the following day. I would definitely never take this muck again. Your experience is exactly mine. 100 mg of Trazodone gave me dry mouth, congestion, stoned feeling, stoned the next day, etc. Temazepam, the benzo "intended for sleep" did NOTHING. And zopiclone (Imove), I too, find "brilliant". I love the feeling... and I too know it's starting to work when I get that bitter taste in my mouth. Then I sit there laughing at Letterman, feeling everything in the world is just gonna be OK, then turn off the light, hit the pillow, and fall asleep RIGHT AWAY. Yet the docs don't seem to want me to give me any more. Tomorrow I'm going to the walk-in clinic in the building where I work, because I want something for the diarrhea the Paxil I take is causing (over the counter Imodium is NOT working), and I'm going to ask for more Imovane. The worst they can say is no, but I find usually when you've been on something before, and you want more, they're more apt to give it to you.
