Question:
Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? If so, how long do they last?

Answer:
I've posted about this topic before. I've been coming off Effexor XR per instructions from pdoc (very slowly) for quite some time. I took my last pill (tiny dose) about 3 days ago. I'm feeling really awful now. I have pins and needles sensation all over my body. I'm having episodes of sweating profusely, and have strange sensations in my head and my eyes. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? If so, how long do they last? I really feel bad. I don't want to go back on even the miniscule dose I had been taking. Is there anything else I can do? I don't know of a guaranteed solution to the problem, but here are some strategies that have been reported to help different people. Continue to taper down from even your tiny dose (assuming you have a non time-release formulation). If the Effexor is a capsule filled with little beads, take it apart and count the beads, and reduce your "bead count" carefully over time. If it is a tablet, you might try grinding it to a powder, mix thoroughly with an inert powder (for example, powdered sugar) to provide more bulk, then divide the mixture for your doses. (Ask your doctor if the latter process would render the medication ineffective.) Take Benadryl, a prescription antihistimaine such as Meclizine, or Dramamine, as needed to alleviate symptoms. Take a benzodiazepine (Valium, Xanax) to alleviate symptoms. Take omega-3 ("fish-oil") capsules. Some people report this helps them. Substitute Prozac (a long-lived SSRI) for Effexor, to mute the withdrawal symptoms. (Stopping Prozac is much easier than stopping Effexor).
