I recently started on Serzone, in part because of its low side-effect profile. Prozac and Effexor both had made me intolerably fatigued. I am experiencing some sexual side-effects with Serzone--a major loss of libido--something I didn't have with either Prozac or Effexor. I am wondering if others have run into similar problems with Serzone.

I have been on serazone for over two years and have had minimal side affects.The only side affects I do experience is loss of sexual appetite,I do, however give great praises to the medication as it works very well with my depression. And believe me I have been on every medication except Paxil. I am fascinated by the fact that never once have I seen an observation in this or any other website on depression that "low or diminished libido" is a GOOD thing. There may have been some where the loss of libido was described as a problem to one's PARTNER, and this is a genuine problem, but why is loss of libido always framed as AUTOMATICALLY and UNQUESTIONABLY a bad thing? Perhaps it's nothing more than the phenomenon that only those with problems consider it worthwhile to post something. Isn't it possible that a diminishment of libido might be welcome and appreciated by their significant other? This, then, would be a BENEFICIAL side-effect. Neither you nor your significant other are interested. That's a PROBLEM? Unusual, maybe. But why a PROBLEM? Sexual side-effects on Serzone - that's the complete opposite of what Serzone is "all about". When I first went back on ADs I told them I refused to take anything with sexual side effects, so they gave me Serzone. I HATED IT. It made me so incredibly zombified and actually brought on anxiety and panic attacks (I also have GAD). So I begged the doc to switch me to anything - even a libido-killing SSRI. She started me on Paxil, whch is working great for my depression, but did cause the sexual side-effects. I tried gingko biloba with little success, and then asked for Wellbutrin, which is working well. My sex drive has returned, albeit lower than before, but frankly it's nice to not be so driven by sex, as I had been previously. It's interesting that you said Prozac made you fatigued - usually it gives you a "kick" in the morning, sometimes leading to a more agitated state. It seems you have the OPPOSITE side-effects to everything!! You should consider Wellbutrin SR.
