Will resperidone 5HT2A antagonist properties have an effect ?
Answer:
Will resperidone 5HT2A antagonist properties have an effect not just on dopamine (according to stahl essential psychopharmacology 2000) but also on serotonin pathways much like Trazodone? Currently taking 45mg of paroxietine and added 1mg Resperidone recently. I'm not sure what you are asking. Is it whether Risperidone will make your Paroxetine less effective? It is true that Risperidone causes a reduction in serotonergic signalling in the brain. This reduction increases the amount of dopamine. Risperidone also suppresses dopamine activity, so the two effects are in opposition. The result is that in some parts of the brain, dopamine activity is reduced, while in others, it is unaffected, or increases. Whether Risperidone will improve the benefits you get over Paroxetine alone, make no difference, or cause a decrease, is impossible to predict. Obviously your doctor is hoping for improvement, and time will answer the question. My book goes into more detail, if you are interested (see my Web site). It's a complicated business.
